Creation of organic urban realm furniture

Imagine a steel ribbon, embedded in the ground as a ‘threshold’ at every entrance and exit. Then imagine this rising up out of the pavement to serve as navigational signage at key intersections.

This was our solution to a retail wayfinding challenge for Cabot Circus that had to work in tandem with the surrounding Bristol Legible City signage. Working for developers Bristol Alliance (a partnership between Hammerson and Land Securities) and architects Chapman Taylor, we created organic urban realm furniture that echoed the innovative buildings and landscaping. Graphically we borrowed from Bristol Legible City’s mapping configuration for continuity, but went on to develop a graphic style that is unique to Cabot Circus.

June Bretherton, Access Consultant, compared our “creative, innovative and fully inclusive” solution to the successful system already completed and in the ground for the London Borough of Havering in Romford.  Robin Dobson, a Director at Bristol Alliance and Hammerson, claimed we interpreted their requirements and brand aspirations “in a creative way that resulted in a distinctive and unique signage solution"
