fwdesign were asked by Newcastle United and Newcastle Council to initially conduct a review into the user journeys and approaches to the stadium and how to disperse the crowd after a match.
Our recommendations looked at the transition of visitors from the city centre and central station to the ground and their journey to a turnstile or entrance. The resultant strategy addressed the whole journey from home to venue and then back out into the city and home. It included consistent information from ticket to seat. The strategy is supported with a concept direction for the stadiums signage, building dressing and ticket design.
St James' Park is a key icon in the city and a major attraction, besides football it will be used for the Olympics and for the rugby world cup in 2015 and as a venue for conferences.
